SIGMA PHI DELTA REJOINS PROFESSIONAL FRATERNITY ASSOCIATION IN HISTORIC HOMECOMING
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Premier International Professional Engineering Fraternity Rejoins PFA, Reaffirming Commitment to Professionalism and Interfraternal Leadership
CHICAGO, IL, August 6, 2026 - Sigma Phi Delta International Fraternity proudly announces that it has officially rejoined the Professional Fraternity Association (PFA). Following a vote by the PFA Fraternal Members, Sigma Phi Delta has returned to the nation’s premier organization for professional fraternal bodies, marking a major strategic milestone in the Fraternity’s ongoing operational revival, Project Momentum.
This return marks a historic homecoming. In 1928, Sigma Phi Delta stood as one of the original 27 founding organizations that established the Professional Interfraternity Conference (PIC), the direct predecessor of today's PFA. The Fraternity’s leadership legacy was cemented through decades of service, notably by Past Grand President Dr. Robert J. Beals, who joined the PIC Board of Directors in 1964 and was elected its President in 1968. Following the 1977 consolidation that created the modern PFA, Sigma Phi Delta proudly continued its active role into the modern era.
"Rejoining the Professional Fraternity Association is both a return to our roots and a bold step into our future," said Ian P. Santarinala, Grand President of Sigma Phi Delta. "As we execute Project Momentum, placing a renewed emphasis on the Professional Engineering pillar of our international brotherhood is paramount. Re-engaging with the PFA ensures our chapters receive top-tier development resources, strengthens our campus advocacy, and honors our founding role in the professional interfraternal movement."
"Sigma Phi Delta was in the room in 1928 when we first organized and helped shape what PFA is today," said Kelsey Gomez-Morrissey, M.Ed, Director of Membership for the Professional Fraternity Association. "Welcoming them back as they launch Project Momentum strengthens the collaboration and shared standards that make all of our members stronger. Very excited Sigma Phi Delta has rejoined PFA!"
Rejoining the PFA provides Sigma Phi Delta’s undergraduate chapters and alumni network with direct access to:
- Interfraternal Collaboration & Best Practices: High-level operational roundtables focused on governance, risk management, emerging technology, and student leadership development.
- University Advocacy: Strategic leverage and model guidelines to support local chapters in navigating campus relations and professional fraternity councils.
- National Recognition: Eligibility for prestigious national PFA awards celebrating outstanding collegiate impact and professional programming.
